CDC uses social media marketing to share health information via Twitter

The federal government has opened an office of digital media to act as a social media agency for government brands CDC uses an internal social media marketing firm and departments. Recently with all the news about the "Swine Flu" all ears have been on Center for disease Control (CDC) as we check for updates on this nasty pandemic. Usually people would get their updates by watching TV or reading the newspaper, not anymore! I am please to announce that the CDC has gone social media on us! Among other social media marketing channels, the CDC has multiple twitter accounts segmenting various messages. The two most popular accounts are the CDC Flu account which is broadcasting the latest updates on the "Swine Flu" and CDC Emergency account, which broadcasts general news. One may think that a government agency wouldn't be very popular in the social media work, but this again. CDC Flu has 6,897 followers and CDC Emergency has almost 95,000!!! With a President that is widely known for his fondness of utilizing internet marketing as well as social media marketing, it's clear to see that the Obama administration has set a precedent on how the government agencies of the United States communicate with the rest of the country.
