ForRent.com is engaging social media marketing and holding a video content to win $10,000. Users are invited to submit a homemade video of why they want to move. This is the site's second time using viral media to promote their site. ForRent.com used a similar campaign last year in hopes of building site traffic as well as the company's brand. Last Year the site saw a 57% increase in site traffic attributed to the contest. Contestants can submit thier videos through most of the social media channels such as Youtube, Facebook and MySpace. Twitter and other social platforms are being used to promote the contest. Videos will be received from now until May 27th. Visitors to the site can review all submission and vote on thier favorites. The winner of the content will be picked based on popularity shortly after June 24th 2009.
You can no longer deny the impact of social media. Marketing Agencies need to do a better job explaining to thier clients the importance of engaging the user at street level. Creating viral or sharable content allows your media campaigns to travel peer to peer and impact multiple potential members of your target market. A 57% increase in site traffic is nothing to sneeze at, not to mention the branding element. I'm excited to see what the creative marketing executives at ForRent.com come up with next.
